Hikari shifted uncomfortably in her seat, twisting her fingers together. Talking to strangers was never a strong suit for her. Actually, talking in general was never an easy thing for her. The small Asian girl looked at the principal, her wide lavender eyes showing her nervousness. Her voice was soft and accented with her Japanese lit as she spoke, and she dropped her eyes. ”M-my name is Hikari Tsukishiro. I-I’m fifteen years old, and my birthday is on December 14th.”
She hesitated, wondering what else she was supposed to say. She tucked a strand of dark brown hair behind her ears, delicately framed face anxious with distress. Hikari was a slight looking girl, barely over five-two and weighing only a couple pounds over one-hundred and ten. Being the typical Asian woman, she was of delicate build, something she had always viewed a certain amount of chagrin…

Now, before we can accept you, we must know what your records are. Can you tell them to me, please?"[/style]
Unlike most people, she didn’t have a problem tell her history per se. True, it wasn’t the most cheerful of histories, but she supposed it could’ve been worse. Hikari sighed softly, toying with a ringlet of hair as she spoke. The story was told in a flat voice, emotionless, her strange coloured eyes looking down at the floor. ”My father – Tatsuya Tsukishiro - is, and will always been a stern man. He owns a bank in Hokkaido, Japan. My mother, Minako, is gentle and rather… fragile woman. They were distant, but, for all their faults, they do love me. And my sister.” Hikari smiled the smile when she thought about her twin.
”My sister – Kana – and I were born one cold December night. The only problem was, we were three months early. Kana was fine - she’s stubborn. But me? It turns out I had – and have – a rare immune deficiency disorder.” It meant that she got sick extremely easily and didn't get well. They were in and out of the hospital for the first five years of her life, giving her a hatred of hospitals. Hikari deliberated on telling the exact name of it, but gave up. This was going on too long. ”Long story short, I have been in and out of hospitals for most of my life. It really sucked.”
But not all of it. Because of her disorder, she was rarely let outside, and didn't get a chance talk to people outside her family. The result? An almost paralyzing shyness. Hikari smiled. Her twin, however, was the opposite. Outgoing, bright, and a tomboy, Kana was everything she was not. Despite that, they were very close. Kana told Hikari about the outside world, and often snuck her out of the house to go play in the huge expanse outside.
”When I was ten, I was told that I wasn’t cured, but I was more stable. It was also then when I found out my power.” Hikari smiled at the memory. It had been interesting, that’s for sure. ”I can shapeshift. One moment I was a normal ten year old girl, the next moment, I was a wolf puppy! My mother was surprised, that is for sure.” The smile faded as she remembered the next. She looked at her hand again. It was three years ago, still too raw. ”I’m going to make this short. My parents, sister and I all went out on our eleventh birthday. My father got distracted by something and he was going too fast… We went over the side. My mother was killed instantly, and Kana…. Kana’s still in a coma. The only reason I survived was because I shifted.” She hadn't spoken for a year and came here to stay with her grandfather, who lived not far from this little place.
Hikari fell silent, closing her eyes. She didn’t want to think about it. Not now. Not ever.
{style=width: 501px; background-color: 141414; font-size: 10px; padding: 5; font-family: garamond; color: 7a6252; text-transform: uppercase; text-align:justify; letter-spacing: 1; border-top: 10px solid #0f0f0f; border-bottom: 10px solid #0f0f0f;}"Fascinating. Seeing as you'll be on the campus of Ashes, we must know what your personality is like. Are you gifted?"[/style]
To describe herself…. Hikari pulled out a report the hospital had done on her when she had refused to talk for a year. She handed it to the principal and sat back.
First and foremost, Hikari is totally and completely submissive. It has to do with her being almost paralyzing shy, we suspect. When she was younger, she never really talked to anyone outside her family, and the result was that now she can hardly talk to anyone without stammering and blushing. She hardly ever looks anyone in the eye, and is more prone to staying silent in company than actually saying anything. She's very good at the whole "speak when spoken to" sort of idea, even though it's a tad outdated. When she does talk, it's usually in a very quiet, soft voice that could probably be over looked for the wind. She tends to fade into the background, which is perfectly fine with her. She hates to be the centre of attention anyway, according to her father.
But that doesn't mean that she has nothing to say, we found out. Once you get her to open up and relax, we found out that she's a sweet, if not a bit quiet, girl. She genuinely cares about the people around her, and does her best to please others. Hikari is the type of person who doesn't think about herself at all, but wants to make everyone around her happy, which can be sort of destructive. Hikari can come off as being somber and serious, since she rarely laughs, but it isn't because she is somber. She just doesn't know how to laugh or smile, since she rarely had a chance to in the past.
Hikari is far clever than anyone gives her credit for, mostly because she does her hardest not to stand out. We were surprised to find this out - with an IQ of 180 and a photographic memory, she's easy labeled as a genius. She catches onto things very quickly, and rarely needs an explanation twice. She can seem a bit slower, however, because of her lack of understand of English expressions. They baffle her all the time, and she doesn't understand half of them, and the other half she butchers terribly. It makes sense, since she had grown up in Japan. She tries her best thought. She's unfailingly polite to everyone, rarely ever dropping the Japanese honorifics, even though she's in America, and tends to be formal to everyone. It's rare for her to get close enough to a person to drop the formalities.
We have noted that Hikari has severe trust and self-confidence issues. Because she was so sick when she was younger, constantly put down by her father, she believes that she is worthless. We believe that it's this reason why she is a very driven person. When she decides to do something, she does it no matter what. Once she makes up her mind, there is no going back, no changing it, no matter how hard you try or who you are. She holds herself to higher standards than anyone else, and drives herself to be "perfect". Of course, Hikari isn't stupid; she knows perfection is impossible. But it's the only way she knows how to live, and she doesn't know how to get out of it. When it comes to trusting people, she has a hard time with it. Not because she's been betrayed in the past, but because she really hasn't had a chance to trust very many people. She doesn't know HOW to, and it bothers her. A lot.
She’s a very submissive person. That's not to say that she'll take anything that comes to her, but she rarely back-talks the person in charge. She believes that the leader knows best, and that it isn't her place to question things. She's very loyal to those who have earned it, and when it comes down to it, can fight for them when necessary. And just because she is submissive and shy doesn't mean that she doesn't have a temper - the whole red-head temper holds true for her. She can be sharp tongued and cruel when angered, though she never means to actually hurt anyone. She doesn't lie - or rarely ever, because she epically fails at it - though she does try and soften the blow.
Quietly, she added. ”As I said before, I am a shape shifter. I can change my shape into any animal that I have seen before. It doesn’t matter if I’ve seen it in real life or a picture, as long as it is a real animal. It’s uncomfortable, but not painful.” Her favourite form was that of a wolf, though she hadn’t changed in a long time.

When you come to Ashes, it is very easy to get mixed up on what you want to do later in life. Let's clear up that confusion now while we have the chance. What would you like to do in the future?"[/style]
Hikari cocked a head to one side. Goals? Until last year, her whole life had been… over. ”I don’t really know, honestly. I want to teach, but I don’t know. I still have years to decide, don’t I? I’m only fourteen!”
